“a Witch is born out of the true hungers of her time (…) I am a child of the poisonous wind that copulated with the River on an oil-slick, garbage infested midnight. I turn about on my own parentage. I inoculate against those very biles that brought me to light. I am a serum born of venoms. I am the antibody of all Time.”

Long After Midnight, Ray Bradburry

The Julia Legare legend
Sometime in the 1800’s a young girl was visiting family on Edisto Island, in South Carolina. While there, the girl took ill with malaria or some other disease fatal in that time period. She died shortly after becoming ill, and since people then believed that diseases could be caught from the dead, a coffin was hastily constructed and she was interred in the Legare family tomb.
Years later, another death occured, and the tomb was re-opened for its new resident. To the shock of everyone present, a skeleton tumbled out in front of them. Seems the girl they had interred years before was only in a coma, and once awakened, fought her way out of her flimsy coffin but was too weakened by disease to budge the masoleum door. Scratch marks covered the door from her panic before she died, trapped. The tomb still stands but there is no door.

This is the Buckley Family. The children’s names were Susan and John. As a Halloween joke, all the kids in the neighborhood were going to get a dummy and pretend to chop its head off. The Buckley children thought it would be hilarious to actually murder their mother, so when the kids walked up the the door, they got an axe and slaughtered her. Once everyone figured out what they had really done, they called the police, but the kids were long gone by then. The only picture of them was this photo, taken by a trick or treater. The mothers body was later found half eaten.

Delphine McCarty LaLaurie was a sadistic socialite who lived in New Orleans. Her home was a chamber of horrors. On April 10, 1834, a fire broke out in the mansion’s kitchen, and firefighters found two slaves chained to the stove. They appeared to have started the fire themselves, in order to attract attention. The firefighters were lead by other slaves to the attic, where the real surprise was. Over a dozen disfigured and maimed slaves were manacled to the walls or floors. Several had been the subjects of gruesome medical experiments. One man appeared to be part of some bizarre sex change, a woman was trapped in a small cage with her limbs broken and reset to look like a crab, and another woman with arms and legs removed, and patches of her flesh sliced off in a circular motion to resemble a caterpillar. Some had had their mouths sewn shut, and had subsequently starved to death, whilst others had their hands sewn to different parts of their bodies. Most were found dead, but some were alive and begging to be killed, to release them from the pain.

So Martha what did you go as for Halloween? Myself, that is scarier than anything I could have dressed up as. LOL. In reality… I seriously did nothing this Halloween cause of me being so sick from the heart attack… so go figure.
